Source: Post-Bulletin, Rochester, Minn.儲存Oct. 12--The good news for the Rochester John Marshall football team is that it beat struggling city rival Rochester Century 35-7 Friday night in Big Nine Conference football at John Drews Field. It did it behind an offense that continues to show big-strike ability, led by the right arm of quarterback Kaeleb Stangler and the receiving of 6-foot-4 receiver Brody Diggins, among other wideouts. And the bad? Well, two things: JM's defense keeps showing signs that it could be a sturdy outfit, while never quite seeming to finish the job (missed tackles). The second part of the bad is what's up next. JM travels to take on the No. 1 ranked team in the state on Wednesday, Owatonna. For the Rockets to have a chance in that one, they need a lot more of the good things that happened offensively against Century, and they need to live up to their defensive potential. Do those things, and they might have a shot."We have to play really well to stay with Owatonna," JM coach Jack Drews said. "Next week we're going to have to tackle a lot better than we did tonight."Despite Friday's final score, Century played right with JM the entire first half. Few figured it would after limping into the contest injured and with a 2-4 record. JM entered 4-2.The Panthers, operating with second-string quarterback Joey Ferraro in place of injured Alex Beise, did what they wanted to do in the first two quarters. They ran the football with success, getting 58 yards rushing from Nick O'Brien. But their problem was one that plagues lots of teams as young as Century -- mistakes.Turnovers were its biggest headache. Century fumbled three times in the first half, losing two of them, both deep in their own end. JM took advantage each time, using a mini 28-yard touchdown drive for its first score, capped by a 7-yard Jason Rieke run. The second TD came on a drive that was one play -- a 39-yard bomb from Stangler to Diggins.JM used those strikes, and a handful of other Century mistakes, to go into intermission on top 14-0."We shot ourselves in the foot too many times," Vik said. "We felt like we should have gone into halftime tied, or maybe even ahead. But we just had too many mistakes. Against a team as good as JM, you can't do that. You have to play with composure."The Stangler-to-Diggins sco迷你倉ing combination extended into the second half. JM made it 21-0 at the 5:44 mark of the third quarter when Stangler tossed his second gorgeous TD bomb to Diggins. This one covered 64 yards. Diggins finished with three catches for 111 yards and two scores."Stangler has always been a great passer," Diggins said. "Both of those touchdown throws to me, they were perfect."Stangler finished 8-for-13 for 218 yards. Rieke had 59 yards rushing on 11 carries.Century, which got its only TD with 5:38 left in the fourth quarter on an Aaron Ajke 7-yard run, was led by receiver Darryl Martin. The junior had four catches for 60 yards. O'Brien also had 60 yards rushing.JM 35, Century 7Century#0#0#0#7#--#7John Marshall#0#14#13#8#--#35Second quarterJM -- Jason Rieke 8 run (Colton Benavidez kick), 7:31.Drive: 4 plays, 28 yards, 1:39.
