Source: Tulsa World, Okla.自存倉Nov. 03--Dear Action Line: We are a small employer but keep getting these ominous mailers and emails saying if we don't buy their labor law posters to hang in our shop we'll get a big government fine. What up with this? -- D.G., TulsaThis is an ever-present scam that's been making the rounds since passage of the 1970 Occupational Safety and Health Act, requiring job safety and health information be posted in most workplaces. It and other labor acts imposed penalties for employers not posting, and this sparked the scam that is still persuading employers to buy the (otherwise free) posters.Required postings of federal and state labor laws can be obtained free of charge. Still, area businesses keep receiving unsolicited invoices for the cost of materials required to be posted at businesses, such as those explaining minimum wage and overtime laws. All of those required postings are free and easily available from government agencies.Area businesses have been receiving faxed invoices for hundreds of dollars for the labor-law compliance materials. The invoice indicates employees of the businesses verbally agreed to being billed the amount, yet business owners maintain no one from the billing entity had contacted their businesses and no one had ordered the materials.Oklahoma businesses: The Oklahoma Department of Labor website warns, "Do not be mislead by solicitations requiring payment for these posters. They are provided free through the Oklahoma Department of Labor" online at bit.ly/laborposters This inclu迷你倉es notices to be posted, employers required to post them and info about how to obtain the notices for free.Interstate businesses: The U.S. Department of Labor's list of required postings can be accessed from its Internet home page at bit.ly/dolpostingsYou can download and print posters free of charge directly from USDOL's Poster Page at bit.ly/dolposterpage Ask for DOL posters to be mailed to you by calling the Department at 866-487-2365. Up to five of each type of poster can be sent to you free of charge. The DOL provides only hard copies of the individual posters, not the "six-in-one" or other combination posters advertised by the freelance distributors.Better Business Bureau: Tulsa Better Business Bureau COO Rick Brinkley reminds business owners to never pay bills for goods or services not authorized or ordered and should assign purchasing decisions and records keeping duties to designated staff members. All employees should know the office's policy on purchasing supplies, receiving goods and invoicing.Business owners should also check the bureau's database on the company name, phone number or URL before purchasing anything from an unfamiliar business soliciting sales online, by phone or through the mail.Submit Action Line questions by calling 918-699-8888, emailing phil.mulkins@tulsaworld.com or by mailing them to Tulsa World Action Line, P.O.
