THE new year will bring rush-hour commuting cheer to those living in Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Batok and Sengkang, with the launch of three new City Direct bus services to the Central Business District (CBD).迷你倉將軍澳City Service 652, beginning on Jan 6, will ply Upper Thomson Road, Yio Chu Kang Road and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4, Avenue 3 and Avenue 10, before taking the Central Expressway (CTE) downtown.City Service 653, beginning on Jan 13, will ply Hume Avenue, Hillview Avenue and Bukit Batok East Avenue 2 and Avenue 3 before taking the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE).City Service 654, beginning on Jan 20, will ply Anchorvale Street, Compassvale Street and Rivervale Drive before taking the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) and East Coast Pa迷你倉尖沙咀kway (ECP).For a start, the new services will make two one-way trips to the city on weekday mornings and two one-way trips back to the heartland in the evenings. Trips may be added depending on demand, said a Land Transport Authority spokesman yesterday.The City Direct services are run by private bus operators to give heartland commuters an extra option in and out of the city. A total of 10 will be rolled out.Three routes serving West Coast, Sembawang and Jurong East will begin in February.More details on these routes will be announced, said the spokesman.The first of these bus services connecting Jurong and the CBD was launched in September, and got a thumbs up from commuters who managed to avoid morning peak-hour crowds by taking it.davidee@sph.com.sg
