Regis Ryan."In a community where people are fighting for the next meal and a comfortable place to live, Father Ryan has been a helping hand for 37 years, and no one can match his service," said Greg Quinlan, executive director at FOR.Father Ryan retired late in 2012 as executive director, but he is still very much "around," Mr. Quinlan said, for he is executive director of the Sto-Rox Neighborhood Family Health Center, one of the many programs operated by Focus on Renewal.The gala will be in the Father Ryan Arts Center, 420 Chartiers Ave., McKees Rocks. A VIP reception ($125 per ticket) starts at 6 p.m., and the gala starts at 7 p.m. ($44 per ticket).A toast to Father Ryan will be led by Gregg Behr, executive director of The Grable Foundation. Years ago, Mr. Behr worked summers at FOR while he was a student at Notre Dame University, Mr. Quinlan said.Honorary chairman is Randy Castriota, owner of Castriota Metals, which has operations in McKees Rocks and Pittsburgh.The theme is A Taste of Sto-Rox, so the food will include homestyle favorites including pierogies, ravioli, ribs and more.mini storage slide show featuring a retrospective of Father Ryan's contributions will run throughout the night in the Braverso Theater. A silent auction will be held in the Art Gallery.Each of FOR's programs will contribute to the gala -- often with interactive activities -- including the library, community center, food bank, early childhood education and the arts.In the library, people can make video testimonials to Father Ryan. Residents who have attended "open mike" nights will perform in the theater. Guests can play with Playdough and other art supplies, as do the children and adults who take classes at the center. Guests can learn the dances that are taught in the Positive Pre-School program.FOR services include a community center, food pantry, free lunches, early Head Start and family support programs, the FOR Sto-Rox Library and the Father Ryan Arts Center.Gala tickets can be ordered by emailing ccrytzer@forstorox.org or by calling Chris Crytzer at 412-771-6460 ext. 305.Proceeds will benefit FOR programs.
