Health surfers clicked off over $400M website
Source: The Daily Item, Sunbury, Pa.self storageOct. 19---- SUNBURY -- More than two weeks after its rollout, HealthCare.gov, the federal government's health insurance marketplace, is still plagued with massive glitches. The website, which cost nearly $400 million through March 31, is still unable to allow most users to even log in, according to data released Tuesday by Kantar US Insights and based on research conducted by the nonpartisan firm Millward Brown Digital.Website traffic Oct. 1 was roughly equivalent to that on Target.com, but the server was unprepared to handle that many hits, according to the report by Matt Pace, vice president of Millward Brown.Through Oct. 5, more than 9 million users visited the site, but only 271,000 people successfully logged in and only 36,000 completed enrollment, according to the numbers. That's a poor track record for such an expensive website, said Conor Quinlan, chief executive officer of MePush in Lewisburg."There are other large sites that people hit on a regular basis like this," he said. "People know how to gauge for that."While all websites have bugs, Quinlan said the amount of funding for the website should have ensured that everything was stress-tested and ready to go for the site's launch. While users will refresh and retry a website if they are motivated, those who are not enthused about the program may not, Quinlan said."If my desire for the health care is not great, I'm not going to go back," he said. "But if someone really has a need, they will keep trying."Call, don't clickValley residents said they have been trying to use the website, but ran into problems, causing them to turn to other methods of registering for the program."My application has been processed," Patricia K. Arduini wrote on The Daily Item's Facebook page. "The application was a breeze to complmini storagete. The glitch now is being able to view my results. Once this has been rectified I'll be set to shop. I have had wonderful conversations with the 800-number representatives as well as the online chat reps. They are very willing to assist in any way they are able at this time."Nancy Wisniewski Libbey wrote she also had to use the special government phone line to sign up."Yes, I experienced glitches, but simply called the 800 number," she said. "An efficient representative took my info, opened my account, started my application and will guide me through the process the old-fashioned way -- person to person." U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, a Pennsylvania Democrat and a huge proponent of health-care reform, said he agrees that HealthCare.gov needs to be fixed as soon as possible."Senator Casey believes the administration needs to work immediately to fix problems at HealthCare.gov and ensure that Pennsylvanians and Americans across the country have access to a workable site," spokesman John Rizzo said. "The fact that millions of people across the country have visited HealthCare.gov is a sign that there's significant interest in the program."A Valley program helping people sort through the health-care reform maze is Geisinger's Trusted Advisor program, available through geisinger.org/reform or (855) 849-1510, which provides counselors able provide real-time answers to questions, according to a press release by the health care system."With the launch of the state and federal health insurance marketplaces, it is natural that people are going to have questions about what the changes mean to them and their families," said Glenn Steele, Geisinger president and CEO.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 The Daily Item (Sunbury, Pa.) Suspect apprehended: 22-year-old man accused of dozens of break-ins
Source: The Tribune-Democrat, Johnstown, Pa. Oct. 19--SOMERSET -- The masked man who kept state police at bay and business owners on edge while breaking into as many as 36 businesses in the past 2 1/2 months was caught Thursday night.State police in Somerset raided a trailer home in Friedens and arrested 22-year-old Roy Thomas Penrose III.Troopers seized prescription drugs, money, lottery tickets, a handgun, tools and other items stolen from businesses in Somerset and Westmoreland counties since August. They also found 115 packs of heroin.Authorities said Penrose targeted businesses, breaking in through windows, doors and roofs and in one case tunneling in from the outside. So far, Penrose is charged with one of the break-ins, the Sept. 21 burglary at Blanset Hardware in Stoystown. Charges in the remaining crimes are expected to be filed in the coming weeks, authorities said."There were an incredible number of break-ins during a short period of time," Somerset County District Attorney Lisa Lazzari-Strasiser said.As weeks passed, concern grew that Penrose might start robbing homes."I started to develop a fear the longer this went the bolder he might get and start entering homes," she said. The brazen thief, fueled by drug addiction, kept the business community on edge, sometimes breaking into multiple buildings on a single night."We did get feedback from some of the businesses," Cpl. William Link said. "They were nervous and, of course, concerned."Investigators carefully examined surveillance footage, conducted interviews, examined foot tracks and did everying they could to identify the suspect who always kept his face hidden behind a bandana."It was frustr迷你倉最平ting that we had surveillance video and it took as long as it did to identify the actor," Link said.Investigators say Penrose broke into restaurants, gas stations and other business, some along Route 30 near Jenners-town and as far south as Rockwood.Penrose was determined to get inside a Westmoreland County restaurant on state Route 31, even if he had to dig a tunnel."He actually broke a hole in the foundation and tunneled through the floor," Sgt. Greg Keefer said.It was a tip to the Crime Stoppers hotline that led investigators to Penrose.Armed with a search warrant, state police flocked to a trailer home in the 100 block of Martin Drive. They found Penrose, the stolen goods and about $1,700 in heroin. He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Douglas Bell of Meyersdale and sent to the Somerset County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.Investigators believe Penrose worked alone. Though the investigation is continuing, authorities expressed relief Penrose is behind bars."I'm smiling," Keefer said. "I don't smile much."Ralph Blanset has owned Blanset Hardware in Stoystown for 30 years, and it was the first time the business was burglarized. The thief made off with a safe filled with lottery tickets, he said. The business has taken steps to guard against future break-ins, but Blanset said he can't afford high-tech security."All we can do is just hope it doesn't happen again," he said.Patrick Buchnowski is a reporter with The Tribune-Democrat. Southwest pulls away from top East Duplin
Source: The Daily News, Jacksonville, N.self storageC.Oct. 19--In an effort to utilize its speed, Southwest has been more of a spread and shotgun team these days, but the Stallions showed Friday night that they can still pound the football.DaMonta Winbush's 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter capped a 10-play, 69-yard drive in 4:28, and the Stallions pulled away for a 23-6 victory over East Duplin in an East Central 2-A Conference game."I never thought that we would do that against them because they are so big up front, but it was good to get," Southwest coach Phil Padgett said. "We were able to mix it up and get outside some, and that's what it came down to."Southwest led just 8-6 when it got the ball at its own 31-yard line with 9:58 left following a punt. Aurellio Ottey set the tone for the drive on the first play with a 16-yard run to the 47.One play later -- and after a 5-yard penalty on East Duplin -- sophomore quarterback Jonathan Williams ran for 12 yards to the Panthers' 33 before a late hit penalty gave the Stallions the ball at the 18.Moments later, the Stallions faced fourth-and-7 from the 15 when Williams ran 13 yards to the 2 for a first down. Two plays later, Winbush scored to give Southwest a 14-6 lead with 5:30 left."We were just watching the clock and making sure we were holding onto the ball," said Winbush, a senior who finished with 37 yards on nine carries. "If we won 8-6 (that was fine). We just had to make sure we had the ball and kept running time off."Williams credited the offensive line for the long drive."It came from our blocking," he said. "I feel Ray (Hettinger) and Brad (Cannon) did good tonight."Williams ran for the ensuing two-point conversion to make it 16-6 after Southwest was called for two 5-yard penalties before the attempt. After dropping back, Williams raced down the right sideline, went around a defender and into the end zone."Our scheme on defense was good, we had people in spots to make tackles, but we didn't," East Duplin coach Battle Holley said. "I thought our guys played good, we just missed some tackles."Southwest then put the game away when Jay Pouncey returned an interception 40 yards with 4:37 left to give the Stallions a 23-6 lead.Just like that, Southwest was in control."We had to do some stuff out of our norm, and we throw an interception for a touchdown," Holley said. "We drive the football all night and have some penalties that hurt us, but that's part of it. I felt like we stopped ourselves on offense."With the win, Southwest (6-2, 2-0) earned its second ECC victory in as many outings entering next week's game at Northside (5-3, 2-0).This was the first East Duplin-Southwest meeting since the Stallions defeated the Panthers 16-0 in 2008. After this loss, the Panthers (迷利倉-5) dropped to 0-2 in the ECC entering next week's home game with Croatan.Trailing 6-0 at halftime, the Stallions' offense came alive after Williams recovered a fumble at the Panthers 49 with 7:22 left in the third quarter. Southwest then marched 51 yards on seven plays in 2:57, capping the drive on a 2-yard touchdown run by Winbush.Senior Isaiah Corbins then ran in the two-point conversion to give Southwest an 8-6 lead."We went into the locker room and we didn't let it (deficit) get in our heads," Williams said. "We came out and knew we had to get on it. We gave (Winbush) the ball more, but nothing else really changed."The Panthers took a 6-0 lead just 2:15 into the game when junior Dauviea Anderson scored on a 28-yard touchdown run that capped a 5-play, 78-yard drive on the game's first possession.East Duplin controlled most of the first half, out-gaining Southwest 166 to 65 on the ground before halftime. The Panthers also ran 29 plays in the first half, compared to 18 for the Stallions. It was a first half that the Panthers wanted."That's what we got to do. We have to control the football," Holley said. "We drove it, but this is two weeks in a row that we couldn't finish."East Duplin mustered just 65 yards on offense in the second half."We knew we didn't match up well with them and so I was real concerned," Padgett said. "They did exactly what I figured they would try to do with us. But our defense played outstanding, especially in the second half. They made the plays when they had to."That buck sweep by East Duplin really hurt us, but our ends just played so tough."Now the Stallions can direct their focus on Northside, which beat Dixon 40-13 on Friday. The Southwest-Northside game features the only two teams 2-0 in the ECC.The Stallions are excited about that one."Of course," Winbush said.

Source: The Spokesman-Review, Spokane, Wash. Oct. 19--A woman and two young children were badly injured when they were hit by a car on North Monroe Street on Friday evening. The woman and children were crossing Monroe at about 6:30 p.m. Friday when they were struck by a white station wagon, said Sgt.
